St Michael's Mount

St. Michael's Mount, Cornwall.

After setting up this composition in near darkness with a mostly clear sky I waited for the rising sun to light up the scene. As it came closer to 6.15 am (sunrise) clouds began to form and although I waited well over an hour in total the sun never came through the clouds. I was quite disappointed at the time but continued to take the occasional frame as the colours in the sky shifted with the moving cloud. I made the best of the conditions.
It was only when I got home that I realised, in some of the early images, reflected light from the clouds behind me had just managed to light the land in front of me. it seemed so subtle and short lived at the time that I really considered it irrelevant, not so.

I spent the time protecting my camera from sea spray with a plastic carrier bag pulled over it and continually removing the filter set up, polishing the specks from it!
